Meshach's Carpenters

The name Meshach comes from the book of Daniel in the Bible. Meshach was one of the Hebrews taken into exile by Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar.

Meshach and his friends had presonal traits that qualified them for jobs as servants in the king's palace, but they remained faithful to God. Rather than partaking of the rich food and wine offered by the king, they chose to eat only vegetables and drink only water.

When laws were put in place ordering all people to bow down to a golden idol set up by king Nebuchadnezzar or else be thrown into a furnace. Meshach and the others refused to obey. That would have been unfaithful to God, as they said to the king: "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." (Dan. 3:17-18 NIV)
Because of their disobedience to the king, all three were tied up and thrown into a furnace, which had been made seven times hotter than usual. However, due to thier faithfullness to God, the flames did not harm them.

Our mission is to be as faithful to God as Meshach was and to serve God faithfully as "ordinary people, doing extraordinary things."

About us

In 1999, Hurricane Floyd devastated eastern North Carolina. As members of Goldston United Methodist Church, Charles Fields, Jody Harris, and Phillip Luther, felt it was their duty to help. After heading east, the team experienced first hand the devastation, which became the force that drives the team to keep giving. Charles and other volunteers created what is now known as Meshach's Carpenters.

Meshach's Carpenters is a disaster relief group that assists families in times of need. Starting with only a group of twenty, the group is now one hundred and twenty strong. After rebuilding homes in North Carolina, the team has grown not only in spirit, but in size. It is a non-denominational group that has grown from two churches to over thirty. Meshach's Carpenters is equipped with tools and a willingness to work, funded only by donations, fundraisers and prayers.
